Controlling Britney Spears finally premiered in the UK on Monday (Sep. 27), but it’s a different documentary that may have rubbed the pop star the wrong way. According to TMZ, Spears’ latest Instagram post, which calls out one of the many new documentaries about her life and career, is actually about CNN’s Toxic: Britney Spears’ Battle For Freedom, which debuted on Sunday, Sept. 26.
Britney Spears is setting the record straight. On Monday, the singer shared a now-deleted message to her Instagram account saying that much of what was said in a new documentary about her conservatorship was untrue.
In her post, Spears named three issues she had with the documentary: “Number one … that’s the past !!! Number two … can the dialogue get any classier… Number three … wow they used the most beautiful footage of me in the world !!! What can I say .. the EFFORT on their part.”
The “Toxic” singer previously called out Framing Britney Spears after its February release.
“I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes !!!!”
The documentary alleged that Spears’ phone was bugged and that a recording device was installed in her bedroom. This device allegedly recorded conversations between Spears and her fiancé, Sam Asghari, as well as with her children. In response to the allegations, Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, told the Los Angeles Superior Court that her father had reportedly “engaged in horrifying and unconscionable invasions of his adult daughter’s privacy.”
The lawyer also said that the alleged listening device “corroborates so much of her compelling, poignant testimony,” and noted that in California, both parties must be aware of when they are being recorded. In response, Jamie’s attorney, Vivian Thoreen, said that his actions “were well within the parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court,” and that they “were done with the knowledge and consent of Britney, her court-appointed attorney, and/or the court.”
Rosengart, for his part, will be adding the issues raised in the documentary to “an already-growing list” of reasons why Jamie should be removed as his daughter’s conservator before the next hearing takes place on Sept. 29. Deadline also claims that the FBI is reportedly looking into these allegations “for a further possible criminal probe” due to Spears allegedly not being aware of the recordings.
